Gate of Heaven Christmas

Christmas is particularly special here at Saint Benedict Center. While many visitors come to admire the lifesize Nativity Scene on the front lawn of IHM Chapel or to visit the beautifully adorned inside, the gem of the Sisters’ private Gate of Heaven Chapel is rarely seen.

The convent’s private chapel is lovingly decorated with evergreen garlands, poinsettias, and Christmas trees. The Infant Jesus rests in a hand-carved manger, prominently displayed at the altar rail and surrounded by flowers.

With school closed for two weeks, the Sisters enjoy “a week of Sundays.” This celebration also includes a visit and lunch with Bishop McManus, a tradition they have maintained for several years. Everyone enjoys the delightful atmosphere filled with laughter, storytelling, and blessings. After the visit this year, the Sisters gathered for a photo in the Gate of Heaven Chapel with Bishop McManus. We are truly grateful to God for our prayerful bishop.

Christmas Fair in Photos

The Sisters transform MacIsaac Hall into a quaint marketplace for the monastery Christmas Fair every year! On December 7, 2024, visitors once again enjoyed a wide variety of stalls offering delicious foods, baked goods, and unique gifts handmade at the convent. Kids enjoyed the festive games, while Santa’s Workshop allowed crafters of all ages to whip up personalized presents! The event also featured lively Christmas karaoke and a stunning display of nativity scenes from around the world that could admired or even purchased! There were raffle items to win and treasure hunt items to find.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the dedicated volunteers who make this event a tremendous success. We are already looking forward to next year’s Christmas Fair!

Sisters in the White Mountains

After working to prepare the camp facility for the upcoming winter months, some of the Sisters took the opportunity to enjoy a hike in the nearby White Mountains.

Their destination was Arethusa Falls, the tallest single-drop waterfall in New Hampshire, in Crawford Notch State Park. The Sisters reached the breathtaking 160′ falls in time to eat lunch at the base before continuing the loop trail, enjoying spectacular overlooks. Not only was the day a hiking adventure, but it was also an opportunity to meet many people! It’s not too often you’ll see Sisters on the hiking trails!

They couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day and are thankful to God for the artistic wonders that He gives through His Creation. Enjoy the pictures below!

September 8th Novice

Having completed her months as a postulant, the first step in religious life, Madeleine Robbins took the habit and veil of a Novice on September 8th, 2024.

It was symbolically beautiful that on the feast of the Nativity of Our Lady, she would begin a new life with a new name in religion! She is now known as Sister Maria Francesca, taking the intrepid Mother Cabrini as her namesake and patroness.

Please pray for Sister Maria Francesca as she embarks on the two-year program of Novitiate, a time of study and training in preparation for First Vows. May our sweet Blessed Mother and the zealous Mother Cabrini be her inspiration and guides. Perseverance Sister!

To Bee or Not to Bee

That’s right, the monastery is now happy to be beginning to bee-keep! Thanks to our mentors, the Dragas and Bobkov families, and the donation of a bee hive from the Traylor family, we are off to a good start! Our two hives are happy and seem busy and content with our bee-utiful flowers on the monastery grounds! Sister Brigid Mary and Sister Marie-Celine have been learning the ropes of beekeeping, and we are trying to get used to seeing them in their gear!
