Into the New Year

Liturgically, the new year for Catholics begins with the coming of Advent—a time of joyful expectation and spiritual preparation. At the monastery, the Advent and Christmas seasons are marked by a wonderful blend of activity, anticipation, prayer, and work. The elementary grades bring a special delight to these days, as Christmas truly shines as a season for children. Their visit with Saint Nicholas, festive class parties, and the much-anticipated school pageant fill the halls with laughter and excitement. The annual decorating of the Chapels for Christmas is also a treasured tradition, made possible by the generosity of those who donate the greenery that transforms these holy places in preparation for the coming of Christ. Christmas brings its own cherished days and customs, followed by the New Year—a time for fresh beginnings and renewed hope. Enjoy this selection of photos capturing the joyful close of 2025 and the promising start of 2026.

Christmas Wish List 2025

Each year, the Sisters publish a Christmas Wish List on the monastery website. Our benefactors have been incredibly generous over the years, and the gifts we receive greatly support our monastic life and our work with youth.

Visit the Saint Benedict Center site to find our 2025 Sisters’ Wish List! Thank you, and may God bless and reward you!

With Thankful Hearts

The autumn colors have come and gone here in New England! What a blessing it is to live in a place with four beautiful seasons; it provides a daily source of meditation throughout the year.

At the monastery, we celebrate Thanksgiving Day with a traditional meal, generously donated each year by our Third Order members. It always turns into a fabulous feast, lovingly prepared by a team of Sisters in the kitchen! On that day, we took the time to pray for all our family, friends, benefactors, students, and campers. We hope you all had a wonderful autumn and Thanksgiving! Enjoy some fall photos below!

“In all created things, discern the providence and wisdom of God, and in all things, give Him thanks.”
– St. Teresa of Avila.

May Procession 2025

“May the Mother of Jesus and our Mother, always smile on your spirit, obtaining for it, from her Most Holy Son, every heavenly blessing.” ~St. Padre Pio

This year our annual May Procession to honor our Blessed Mother took place on Mother’s Day! How perfect! Enjoy the video!

We Moved In!

We have officially moved into the new addition at IHM School, which includes a brand-new refectory and kitchen! Although we are still adjusting to the layout of the new space, it has been fantastic to have more room to work with. Just take a look at this spectacular view of the valley from our dining room! For more pictures from the day we moved into the addition, check out the full gallery on the monastery website here! Thank you for your support!

The Sisters love their new refectory!

Gate of Heaven Christmas

Christmas is particularly special here at Saint Benedict Center. While many visitors come to admire the lifesize Nativity Scene on the front lawn of IHM Chapel or to visit the beautifully adorned inside, the gem of the Sisters’ private Gate of Heaven Chapel is rarely seen.

The convent’s private chapel is lovingly decorated with evergreen garlands, poinsettias, and Christmas trees. The Infant Jesus rests in a hand-carved manger, prominently displayed at the altar rail and surrounded by flowers.

With school closed for two weeks, the Sisters enjoy “a week of Sundays.” This celebration also includes a visit and lunch with Bishop McManus, a tradition they have maintained for several years. Everyone enjoys the delightful atmosphere filled with laughter, storytelling, and blessings. After the visit this year, the Sisters gathered for a photo in the Gate of Heaven Chapel with Bishop McManus. We are truly grateful to God for our prayerful bishop.

To Bee or Not to Bee

That’s right, the monastery is now happy to be beginning to bee-keep! Thanks to our mentors, the Dragas and Bobkov families, and the donation of a bee hive from the Traylor family, we are off to a good start! Our two hives are happy and seem busy and content with our bee-utiful flowers on the monastery grounds! Sister Brigid Mary and Sister Marie-Celine have been learning the ropes of beekeeping, and we are trying to get used to seeing them in their gear!

Saint Patrick’s Day 2024

We love Saint Patrick’s Day here at the monastery, and we love our Irish Apostle! This year, our annual Talent Night took place on the eve of the feast and was such a great show! The Sisters performed two songs. The first song was a re-write of a country tune we had debuted last year at Morning Star Camp called “God’s Soldier.” (Watch the video below.) The song tells the story of the great mission of Saint Joan of Arc, and reminds us that “everything is possible with God”! The second song is a brand new song that we hope to share on video soon! The next day, St. Patrick’s Day, was also a Sunday, and we celebrated with a feast of corned beef, cabbage, Irish soda bread, and green water! It’s the small things that make the memories!

Monastery Christmas

Here at the monastery, we love decorating for Christmas. From our monastery’s Alpine-decorated Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel to our little “Gate of Heaven” Chapel at the convent, everything is festive looking and ready to welcome the Little Infant Jesus! Take a look and see the preparations in action!

Palm Sunday Preparations

Take a look into the behind-the-scenes preparation for Palm Sunday here at the monastery. Sr. Magdalene Marie also shares how to make a simple palm cross, and explains that blessed palms are a sacramental. Learn how to make one and share it with others!

Sisters Make Maple Syrup

Every year we tap over 100 sugar maple trees here on the monastery grounds, and make our own monastery maple syrup! A few years ago the Brothers MICM built a quaint little sugar shack in our backyard where Sister Brigid Mary, MICM, makes the maple syrup magic happen! Here’s a quick video to show you how it’s done!

Sisters on Skates

This winter, our Sisters have enjoyed some ice skating during afternoon recreation! No sooner was school out than Sisters were grabbing their skates and heading not to a rink, but the flooded (and frozen) fields in the valley and the abutting conservation land. It made for some lovely skating, as you will see below! Enjoy the video!
